Configure Navigation menu and filters

Summary

In Digital Showroom, the Navigation and Navigation Filters tabs in a portfolio's configuration control how end users browse and refine products. The Navigation tab sets the category tree that drives the portfolio's navigation menu. The Navigation Filters tab defines the attribute-based filters users can apply in the product gallery.

Set the navigation tree

The navigation tree determines which category tree from your Akeneo PIM is used for navigation in a Digital Showroom portfolio. It defines the hierarchical menu that end users browse to find products.

The screenshot above shows the Navigation tab in the portfolio editor, displaying a list of available category trees from the PIM with radio buttons for selection.

End users only see products that belong to the selected category tree and its subcategories. Products not assigned to any category within the selected root will not appear in the portfolio.

To set the navigation tree for a Digital Showroom portfolio:

  1. Go to Admin > Portfolios and click on the portfolio you want to configure.
  2. In the left sidebar, click on Navigation.
  3. You will see a list of available category trees from your Akeneo PIM. Each row shows a category tree name with a radio button.
  4. Select the category tree to use as the root for this portfolio. You have two options:

    • Root category (all products) — Select the top-level option to include all category trees. All products in the catalog become navigable. This option is not recommended for large catalogs, as it provides no focused category-based navigation structure for end users.
    • A specific category tree — Select a category tree to limit the portfolio to only that branch. End users will only see the subcategories and products within that category tree.
    • Click Save to apply your changes.

Set the navigation filters

In Digital Showroom, Navigation Filters are the attribute-based filters that appear in the filter sidebar when end users browse a portfolio's product gallery. Users can combine multiple filters to drill down to specific products. For example, a user can filter by Family, then narrow further by a Color attribute and a Size attribute.

Only attributes you have already enabled in the portfolio's Attribute Selection tab can be used as Navigation Filters. If an attribute does not appear in the filter list, go to Attribute Selection first and enable it there.

Supported attribute types

Not all attribute types can be used as Navigation Filters in Digital Showroom. The following Akeneo PIM attribute types are supported:

  • Simple select
  • Multi select
  • Boolean (yes/no)
  • Metric (measurement)
  • Price
  • Number
  • Reference entity
  • Reference entity collection
  • Family (a built-in system filter, always available regardless of Attribute Selection)

Text, textarea, image, file, and date attribute types cannot be used as Navigation Filters.

Configure navigation filters

To configure Navigation Filters for a Digital Showroom portfolio:

  1. Go to Admin > Portfolios and click on the portfolio you want to configure.
  2. In the left sidebar, click on Navigation Filters.
  3. Browse the list of available attributes. Each row displays the attribute label, code, attribute group, and type.
  4. Use the search bar at the top to find a specific attribute by name.
  5. Check the box next to each attribute you want to enable as a filter. You can select up to 20 filters per portfolio. The counter next to the section title shows how many you have used.
  6. To remove a filter, uncheck the box next to it.
  7. Click Save to apply your changes.

The Family filter

The Family filter is a special system filter that appears at the top of the attribute list in the Navigation Filters tab. It lets end users filter products by their Akeneo PIM Family. You do not need to add Family to your Attribute Selection for it to be available here — it is always present.

What end users see

Once you save your Navigation Filter configuration, end users browsing the Digital Showroom product gallery can use these filters to refine the displayed products. The filters appear in the left sidebar as interactive controls — checkboxes for multi-select attributes, toggles for boolean attributes, and range inputs for number, metric, and price attributes. Users can combine multiple criteria to quickly find the products they need.
