What PIM data are imported into Magento 2?

#Attribute types

Akeneo Connector for Magento 2 imports all these PIM attribute types:

  • Text
  • Text area
  • Date
  • Number
  • Simple select (1)
  • Multiple select (1)
  • Yes/No (2)
  • Metric (3)
  • Image
  • File (4)
  • Asset collection (EE) (5)
  • Price (6)
  • Identifier
  • Table attribute (7)

(1) The connector imports all attribute options with their translations.

(2) As boolean attributes do not exist in Magento 2, the connector converts those as simple select Yes/No attributes.

(3) As metric attributes do not exist in Magento 2, the connector converts those as text attributes.

(4) As Magento 2 doesn't support the import of binary files other than images, the connector only import the relative PIM path for this attribute.

(5) Only available for Akeneo Connector for Magento 2 Enterprise Edition. As Magento 2 does not support the import of binary files other than images, the connector only import image asset binaries.

(6) Some "hot" product data such as updated prices or stock information should not be managed by your PIM but directly by your ERP. A direct connection between your ERP and Magento 2 should therefore be in place. However, the connector can take into account your "price" attribute (if you have one) and map this with Magento 2 product price.

(7) Table attribute type doesn't exist by default in the PIM, it is an add-on that has been developed by Flagbit or Webkul company and allows you to add an additional "table" attribute type in your PIM. The connector is therefore compatible with these 2 extensions ! 😃 As Magento 2 does not have a table attribute type, the Connector can import table data into a Magento 2 text area attribute as a JSON structure. Please refer to our connector configuration documentation to know how to manage "table" attribute type.

(3) As metric attributes are converted into text attributes by the connector, metric attributes can't be a variation axis for configurable products (Magento 2 only supports simple and multi-select attribute types as variation axis).

#Attributes

Akeneo Connector for Magento 2 imports all your PIM products attributes.

If you have some localizable attributes (attributes that can have different values per locale): the connector imports the content of these attributes in the different languages of Magento 2 product.

If you have some scopable attributes (attributes that can have different values per channel): depending on your channel configuration, the connector imports the channel content of these attributes for your Magento 2 Website.

#Categories

Depending on your category configuration, the connector imports all PIM category trees.

Mapping between your PIM and Magento 2:
Akeneo Connector for Magento 2 maps PIM categories with Magento 2 categories.
Because your PIM categories contain only a title while Magento 2 categories enable to have more information (description, image, ...), the connector only imports PIM category title information into Magento 2 category.

Can Akeneo Connector update existing categories in Magento 2? As Akeneo Connector for Magento 2 is using direct queries and a mapping table to speed up and optimize import time, it is not able to recognize categories that have not been imported with the connector.

#Products, Product models

Depending on your product filter configuration, the connector imports "products" and "product models" of your PIM catalog.

Mapping between your PIM and Magento 2:
The connector maps PIM "products" with Magento 2 Simple products.

Mapping between your PIM and Magento 2:
The connector maps PIM "product model" as such:

PIM Product model with 1 level of variation:

  • PIM product model common part with Magento 2 Configurable product
  • PIM product model variation level 1 part with Magento 2 Simple product

PIM Product model with 2 levels of variation: As Magento 2 only manages only 1 level of variation, for PIM Product model with 2 levels of variation*, Akeneo Connector for Magento 2 concatenates attribute data from common and level 1 layer of product models.

The impact for mapping is as follows:

  • PIM product models common part + variation level 1 are mapped with Magento 2 Configurable product
  • PIM product models variation level 2 is mapped with Magento 2 Simple products

Can Akeneo Connector update existing products in Magento 2? As Akeneo Connector for Magento 2 is using direct queries and a mapping table to speed up and optimize import time, it is not able to recognize products that have not been imported with the connector.

#Product associations

Mapping between your PIM and Magento 2:
The connector maps PIM product associations with Magento 2 Related Products, Up-Sells, and Cross-Sells.

::warning As Magento 2 only manages Related (Substitution), Up-sell and Cross-sell association types, the connector doesn't import PIM Pack and "custom" association types. :::

#Product groups

As we have not found an equivalent notion in Magento 2, the connector does not yet import PIM product groups.

#Reference entities [EE] [3.x]

The current connector version doesn't support the import of Reference Entities yet. This feature is currently under development and will release later in 2019.
