Association mapping
This section provides an overview of association mapping in the Akeneo App for Shopify.
Associations
An association is a relationship defined between products to establish connections and dependencies among them. There are various types of associations, such as upsell, cross-sell, substitution, or pack.
The app creates 4 reference metafield definitions per association. Specifically, there are 2 definitions each at the product and variant levels: one for product-level associations and another for variant-level associations.
You can synchronize up to 10 associations in Shopify with the App.
Please be aware that associations on sub-product models cannot be synchronized due to the flattening of variants in Shopify.
Currently, product model associations with simple products and variants are not supported. This use case will be available soon.

Map your associations
Follow these steps to map your associations:
- Go to: Metafield mapping >> Select From PIM associations >> Click on Manage Metafields
- Select associations that you want to map
- Validate your choice by clicking on Save selection
Follow these steps to remove some of the associations from the mapping:
- Go to: Metafield mapping >> Select From PIM associations >> Click on Manage Metafields
- Deselect associations that you want to remove from your mapping
- Validate your choice by clicking on Save selection
