When the Akeneo App runs in Custom Objects Mode, product information is written into the application's custom tables instead of native Salesforce Commerce structures. This guide explains how a Salesforce administrator can display this custom data—Variations, Translations, Media, Categories, and Associations—on the Product2 record page using the packaged components included in the Akeneo bundle.
Architectural Note
Akeneo data in custom objects can be shown in two ways: as related lists on the Product2 page layout, or through the packaged Lightning components on a Product2 record page. Each section below uses whichever route applies, and some domains support both. For related lists, edit the page layout assigned to your users. For components, add the packaged component in the Lightning App Builder, then save and activate the record page. The app does not ship, activate, or modify either for you. For the native Salesforce Commerce layout guide, please see Configuring the Product Display Layout (Standard Mode).
Domain Mapping Quick Reference
The following table maps each domain to the Salesforce object and the Product2 related list used on this page, plus the packaged Lightning component available for that domain:
| Domain | Salesforce Object | Product2 related list | Lightning component |
|---|---|---|---|
| Variations | Akeneo_Variant_Axes_Detail__c | Akeneo Variant Axis Details Akeneo Variant Products |
Product Variants List |
| Translations | Akeneo_Product_Translation__c | Akeneo Product Translations | Product Details |
| Media | Akeneo_Product_Asset__c | Akeneo Product Assets | Product Media Gallery |
| Categories | Akeneo_Product_Category_Product__c | Akeneo Product Category Products | None |
| Associations | Akeneo_Product_Association__c | Akeneo Product Associations | Product Associations List |
Before You Start
Before modifying your product page layouts in the Lightning App Builder, you must ensure your app settings match your desired technical architecture:
- Verify the Domain Configuration: Ensure your app target modes are left blank or explicitly configured to leverage custom tables. For detailed, step-by-step guidance on how to verify these properties in your Custom Metadata Types, please see our dedicated Post-Installation Configuration Guide.
- Hybrid & Mixed Mode Capability: Please note that target modes can be defined independently per data domain. Depending on your business requirements, it is fully supported to mix object types—for example, you can choose to run Standard Mode for Variations and Categories to fuel native commerce features, while remaining in Custom Objects Mode for Translations and Media. Always ensure your layout components match the specific target mode of each domain.
Structural Warning
The custom-packaged components shipped with the app (such as Product Media Gallery and Product Variants List) are hardcoded to read legacy custom tables. If a specific domain's target mode is switched to Standard, these custom components will remain completely empty on your layout and must be replaced by native Salesforce Commerce components.

Product Associations Visibility
When running in Custom Objects Mode, product associations synced from Akeneo (such as cross-sells, up-sells, or substitutes) are stored in the custom object Akeneo_Product_Association__c.
This object captures the link between the main product and the associated product, including the Association Type (for example, X_SELL or UPSELL) and Quantity (if defined).
To display these associated products directly on your Product2 record pages in Salesforce, you can use either the standard Related List or the packaged Lightning Web Component.
Step 1: Add the Related List to the Page Layout
- Go to Setup and search for Object Manager
- Click on Product2 to open the Object Manager page
- Click on Page Layouts and select the layout that you want to edit
- In the top palette, select Related Lists
- Drag and drop Akeneo Product Associations onto the layout
- Adjust the columns of the related list to display Association Type, Associated Product, and Quantity (if applicable)
- Save the layout, and you should see the related list now
Once the product associations have been transferred from Akeneo, you will be able to access the list of associated products from your product lists.

Step 2: Display via Lightning App Builder (Recommended)
- Open any Product record in Salesforce, click the Gear icon (⚙️) in the top right, and select Edit Page
- In the left-hand Components panel, scroll down to the Custom - Managed section
- Drag and drop the Akeneo Product Associations List component onto your desired section or tab on the page
- Click Save and Activate the page
Once configured, any product association established in Akeneo will be clearly displayed and navigable directly from the Salesforce product record page.
